Disney Entertainment Television   |   Application: Director, Development

Dear Team Disney,

With a background in premium unscripted storytelling — resulting in a few shiny awards on my shelf — and a longstanding love of ambitious, character-driven content, I feel I am a great fit for the DET team as your new Director of Development.

My work includes major documentary films like Born Hungry, Oscar Peterson: Black + White, and Howie Mandel: But Enough About Me, as well as live TV in the form of primetime awards shows, sketch comedy, New Year’s Eve specials, and lots more.

Across these and other productions, I’ve partnered with people from Priyanka Chopra Jonas to Kevin Hart and platforms like CBC, Netflix, Hulu, PBS, Bell Media, Tribeca Films, Sky Arts, ARTE, and more, shepherding ideas from whiteboard to red carpet, always with an emphasis on vision, voice, and creative integrity.

I have spent two decades delivering compelling, character-driven content across a wide spectrum of platforms and formats, with stories that are smart, surprising, and occasionally make people cry … in a good way. These projects reflect my focus on crafting high-impact narratives that elevate diverse voices and invite audiences into intimate, emotionally rich worlds.

Through my work, I collaborate with only the best actors, comedians, writers, and subjects in the business. I love working with creatives to shape ideas, crack structure, sharpen characters, and find the version of a show that feels inevitable.

Disney’s legacy of innovative, inclusive storytelling deeply resonates with my own creative values. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to the next wave of unforgettable Disney storytelling.

If you’re looking for someone who brings a mix of strategic thinking, hands-on experience, and a deep affection for strong story architecture, I’d love to discuss this job with you.

Warmly,

Mark Selby
